The 45th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) was held from 4 to 7 March 2014 at UN Headquarters in New York, USA. Delegation headed by Head of the Federal State Statistics Service A. Surinov was attending the event.  The Commission  discussed the following items: implementation of the fundamental principles of official statistics; working methods of the statistical commission; programme review: broader measures of progress; national accounts; environmental-economic accounting; international trade and economic globalization statistics; information and communications technology (ICT) for development; international comparison programme; disability statistics; big data and modernization of statistical systems; publications of the UN Statistics Division; coordination of statistical activities in the UN system; World statistics day; and regional statistical development.

On 29 January 2014, the General Assembly endorsed the resolution A/RES/68/261 entitled Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics as they had been originally adopted by the Statistical Commission 20 years ago in April 1994. The Principles were reaffirmed by the Statistical Commission with a new preamble in March 2013 and subsequently endorsed by the Economic and Social Council on 24 July 2013 (Resolution 2013/21). Endorsement by the United Nations General Assembly marks the first time the Fundamental Principles have received such high recognition at the global political level.
